The Current State of Environmental Ethics in Western Society

Dr. Sheila Forsyth (Forsyth Consulting)

This will be a discussion of trends in values and perspectives within western society as they relate to environmental practice, and the factors that influence these trends. The conference title suggests that a values framework is essential for positive action on the environment. This point will be illuminated with examples from government and industry. Particular emphasis will be given to environmental concerns within Canadian governments.

Sheila is the principle of Forsyth Consulting Essentials, specializing in environmental research and analysis on environmental issues in agriculture, forestry, mining and other resource based industries. She has worked for government, lectured at conferences around the world and is a freelance writer. She is currently working on a book on the spiritual and environmental effects of the Ice Storm in Quebec.
